Hula dance performance from a well-known group that recently performed at an inter-Pacfic event in Tahiti. Well done folks!

Kona fish dive
Great series of native or even endemic Hawai’ian fish in the pond at the Eel’s Garden Grove dive site off Kailua Kona Intl. Airport. We have Surgeonfish (Na’ena’e), Unicorn (Kala), Yellowstripe Goatfish (Weke) and Trumpetfish (Nunu). Can you spot the tiny little Whitespotted Toby (O’opu Hue)?
Kailua-Kona famous Manta night dive
What is more to say? Famous dive. Fabulous ballet. Nice animals. Did not like my faulty air tank. Other than that, all good.
Halema’uma’u lake overflow
Between Oct 14 and Oct 15, the lava lake level rose and rose and finally made it across its old ledge – it overflowed!
Great to have been part of this rare event.
61g lava flow ocean entry for hikers and bikers
For those who do not really want to get on a bumpy boat and really sea sick, the ocean entry is approx. 4 miles from the end of the road at Kalapana and can be hiked (somewhat easily) over the recently built emergency gravel road, or they can bring or rent bikes (which makes it considerably easier). And then… enjoy the show!
61g lava flow ocean entry for the crazy
This felt really crazy like nothing before – taking a small boat into boiling water at the ocean entry of Kilauea’s east rift 61g lava flow that is active since May this summer. There were sizzling hot rocks drifting like ‘anti-icebergs’ in the water, spatter was flying around every now and then, and when the smoke lifted, you could see heaps and heaps of smaller and wider lava streams feeding into the ocean. It was a really strange feeling to have just two outboard engines between you and the lava ledge building out into the ocean near Kalapana, Big Island of Hawai’i.
Halema’uma’u lava lake
This is where my unexpected trip led me, and also the rationale why I went – Kilauea is active more than ever, with the lava lake directly visible from the Jaggar museum overlook at Crater Rim Drive inside Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. Early morning with clear views, and Pele is taking her morning steam bath!
Unexpected trip
This turned out to be a super spontaneous, rather unexpected trip. Excited to go back to that destination again. A bit tired of sitting in all those airplanes so long, but then there is always a catch…
Berlin, Berlin
Quick trip to Berlin with the included honor to speak in front of the European Commissions’ Floods Working Group at one of the Embassies and crossing the street to my hotel just as the Swedish Crown was passing by…
Additional tourist stops included the New Synagogue (where the photo exhibition however did not open as announced in the newspaper) and the Bundestag.
Three times the same…
… panorama from Rothorn to Lenzerhorn peaks, yet three times it is different. For a small photo job I returned to Lenzerheide, luckily did not break my arm this time but still had an ‘incident’ and consequently a flat rear tire, a detour to the Churwalden bike shop and still managed to catch the last ride back up to finish both trail and the job.
