Near Allmend at Frauenfeld, the Thur river runs straight across the upper Thur valley in Thurgau. During cold mornings with high m moisture, fog builds that then tends to be burnt up by the sun pretty quickly during springtime.

Due to the rough seas on this day, we were mostly limited to the sheltered, shallow area of El Fanus close to the main coast, but nice location nevertheless.

Frozen waterfalls in Illinois state parks
Although it was well below freezing, the hikes through the sandstone canyons of Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Parks in central Illinois were well worth the effort. Frozen waterfalls, ice sculptures and eddies in the icy creek were a fantastical spectacle you can only see when the conditions are right.
