I believe this is about the fourth or fifth year that I am trying to capture my perfect “Swiss volcano photo”. There’s a series of extinct volcanoes in the Hegau region just across the lower lake Constance, in a perfectly line of sight from Arenenberg museum at Salenstein village. This is to me one of the most beautiful vantage points across any lake in the world. However, the timing to get the sunset in the cone of the volcano is somewhat tricky, especially as in early summer when you get your first chance of the year, the weather is often soggy with thunderstorms in the air towards the evening. The other chance you get is later in the summer when nights are getting longer and days shorter and the sunset returns from a more northerly point towards the west.
I will be back for another try!
