Kapa pounding – Day 2 of the “PuHo” Festival
Pounding Kapa, the thin and very exquisite Hawaiian cloth made from the Paper Mulberry. However, this is a tradition that only got created “Post-Contact”, that is after the native Hawaiians had encountered Europeans and made some adaptions, including the production of fine compared to the previously rather rough and coarse cloth.

This is the remaining partner of a couple of 13 years, after the female got killed by a visitor’s car on Chain of Craters Road. Roadkill is the number 1 hazard for the endangered endemic goose, Nene. The partner is still lingering on the roadside today, mourning 🙁
